Methodology
Dates, corrections and source health
How records are dated, how corrections are recorded, what automated retrieval does and does not do, and where coverage stops.
How records are dated
Every figure on this site is time-bounded. The site-wide dataset snapshot is August 19, 2026, but each claim carries its own publication, effective, and retrieval dates, and those dates control. A snapshot later than a source date does not make the source current; it only states when the record was last read.
A record absent from a dataset is recorded as not found in sources currently indexed, not as zero or none.
How a correction is handled
- A correction is versioned on the affected record, with the date it was applied.
- A superseded figure remains visible as history rather than being overwritten in silence.
- A correction states what changed and what the change was based on.
- Where a subject disputes a claim we continue to publish, the dispute is recorded alongside it.
What automated retrieval does
Automated retrieval watches federal award records and records when each was last read. Retrieval is not publication: a detected change is written to a review queue and appears on a record only after a person verifies it against the source.
A retrieval failure is reported as a failure. It never blanks a figure, changes a status, or produces an empty state that could be mistaken for a real zero.
Known limitations
- Coverage is partial: the records currently indexed are federal awards selected for documentation quality, not a census.
- USAspending figures change as modifications post; ours are a snapshot, not a live feed.
- Sub-awards, intergovernmental service agreements, and county pass-throughs are largely absent.
- Facility population and capacity figures are not published here unless a primary source states them.
- Individual harm records are withheld until each field is transcribed from the cited report.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement · published Not established · retrieved August 23, 2026
